I had the joy of being part of the Ciel Gallery opening where the artwork that was created for the purpose of illustrating the book, 100 Love Notes was on display. The author, Hyong Yi, was there to sign books as well. 100 Love Notes tells the touching love story of Hyong Yi and his wife, Catherine Zanga. Hyong Yi lives and works in Charlotte and wanted to honor his wife by sharing 100 love notes with people in the community on the anniversary of her death.

Here is the link to the story: www.charlotteobserver.com/news/local/article45620532.html - it is well worth reading.

The book is beautifully illustrated and the story beautifully told. Please stop by the gallery to see the art and check out the book if you are local. If your out of town you can still be a part by visiting:

Here are a few pictures from the opening:

Warm & Cool Color lesson at UMAR Arts Center

Visual Journal page on Warm & Cool Colors
I recently had the privilege of working with a group of artists from the UMAR Arts Center. Check out the center at -  www.noda.org/art/item/umar-arts-center.

I have been teaching the artists about Visual Journaling and each of them is now keeping their own journal. I am also planning a series of lessons to teach them more about color and color theory as it relates to painting. They are doing the lessons in their journals in order to keep them for future reference.

This lessons was on Warm & Cool Colors. They first created one page with a warm background and one page with a cool background by mixing different colors of acrylic paint. They each drew, painted, and cut out original images to glue on top of the backgrounds when they were dry. Some examples of what they drew were, trees, flowers, and light houses. Here are several examples:

Second in the ArtPop Billboard Series

On your way to the airport be sure to look up and see the new location for the billboard featuring my Desert Mountain painting. Exit off of 85 onto Billy Graham Parkway and look up on the right. Or just glance out of the plane on your way back into town!

Exciting News for 2014!

Leigh B. Williams’ Artwork Accents Charlotte’s Skyline

Selected in a juried competition sponsored by the Charlotte Arts and Science Council in partnership with Adams Outdoor Advertising, Leigh B. Williams’ painting, Desert Mountains, was on display in uptown Charlotte from January 1st - March 31st. Stay tuned for future updates and new locations.

One of 15 Artists chosen by the jurors for the inaugural Charlotte “ArtPop” program, Leigh’s painting was prominently displayed on a billboard just off I-77 with the Panther’s Bank of America stadium and the new modernistic Duke Energy tower serving as a backdrop (initial location 822 W. Morehead Street at Cedar Street – see website link below for updated locations).   ArtPop is a growing national program that allows local artists to display their artwork and the public to connect with it as Public Outdoor Art.  Charlotte is the 8th city to embrace this growing movement started by Wendy Hickey, a national sales representative for Adams. This project is schedule to run throughout 2014 with artwork moving periodically to new locations.   For more information on this innovative and engaging concept & current billboard locations, please visit the Charlotte Arts & Science website at www.artsandscience.org under programs and services.

Visit Leigh’s website www.LBWilliamsArt.com to see more of both her abstract and representational paintings.
